After posting the second instalment of my dissertation a few minutes ago, I noticed that, despite simply copy-pasting it from the original word document, footnotes were not being included. This is odd, as I followed the same process as with my first post on this subject, and on that occasion footnotes appeared to work. This seems to mean that no further dissertation chapters will contain footnotes, which is something of a problem as it looks like I just made up all the quotations in the essay.
